Complaint by Numbers

Hello, my name is Elizabeth…

…and I have a problem. That problem, of course, is yarn. I just can’t seem to buy enough of it. Every time I enter a store with even the tiniest craft section, I make an immediate beeline for the yarn, not only to feel the textures and look at the colors/patterns, but also to imagine what each skein could become. Even now as I type this, my fingers twitch in anticipation of the projects sitting next to me, waiting to be finished. The good news is, that in terms to a fixation, yarn is cheaper than crack. :p

I’m also stuck a bit on gifts. I need a few ideas for quick and easy gifts for a few relatives that I hadn’t expected to need to make anything for…

Happy Halloween!

I’m sitting on my couch, pretty far inot a bottle of wine, enjoying a Ghost Hunters special while talking with my friend Lisa (who, in Montreal, is watching the same special). I’m not really a paranormal buff, but this show (and Paranormal State) seems to suck me in.

I’m also mostly done with both the socks and slippers for Matt and my mother, and have begun knitting a sweater (Carolyn from Knitty).

I also made pumpking cupcakes with chocolate frosting. The cupcakes came from this recipe, and the chococlate was a simple buttercream. The cupcakes came out wonderfully! I have to admit, pumpkin might be one of my new favorite foods.

We had around 8 trick-or-treaters this year in three groups (two individuals, and then a group that piled into a minivan and drove around). This was a pretty high number for us. Fortunately, there are plenty of Reeses left for me, 🙂

I’ve begun making holiday gifts for everyone. Well, I’ve at least got some ideas and a few cast on stitches. So far, the list goes:

The Mr.: knit socks, several (by request) – I don’t know what pattern I’ll use. He’ll also get some more stuff, for being so special.

My mother: slippers, at least two pairs (again, a request) – Probably a modified version of the Fluffy Bunny Slippers from The Happy Hooker. I’m still thinking of a second gift for her. Mothers are hard to shop for!

My brother: Red Sox throw/Patriots pillow. The main parts of these are fleece, and I’m crocheting the borders. This should be relatively quick.

My father/stepmom: I have no idea. They are incredibly hard to buy/make for.

Cassie (the dog): she will get a fleecy blanket to lie down on. Yes, I make pet presents.

The kitties: I’m thinking of designing some sort of crocheted catnip pierogi thing.

The degus: another hammock for the to chew up and turn into a nest.

Pictures to come as I get these started!

Yarn Adventures of the Week

I’m not ashamed to say that I don’t necessarily buy the classiest yarn. I’m still looking for a job, and my fiancee is just starting out his business (though it’s going well!). So, I’ve been purchasing a lot of Red Heart Super Saver yarn these days, to quell my need to knit as well as satisfy my guy that I’m not just sitting here wasting money instead of looking for a job. It’s mostly not true.

I have recently started thinking about Halloween, though, and all of the exciting things there is to knit for that lovely holiday. So far, I’m thinking I’ll knit myself a fun costume. Or at least the accessories for a costume. I’m thinking animal themes will be the easiest to tackle. I’ll update here as I go!
